JOIN THE CUMULUS HELSINKI 2012 CONFERENCE ORGANISED BY AALTO UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ARTS, DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE!
Cumulus – The International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media, with its 176 member universities represent 44 countries worldwide. It is a dynamic and flexible academic forum that brings together top level educational institutions from all parts of the world.

Twice a year, a member institution hosts and arranges a 3-day Cumulus conference. The conferences serve as a platform to meet people from all over the world and over all disciplines and to share new ideas and research findings in the field of art, design and media.

CUMULUS HELSINKI 2012 AIMS TO OPEN AND PARTICIPATIVE CITY ENVIRONMENT
The Cumulus Helsinki 2012 conference will be held in Helsinki, May 24-26, 2012 by Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

Over 300 conference guests worldwide are expected to join the conference, which is scheduled during the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. The Cumulus Conference will follow the overall theme of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 theme Open Helsinki – Embedding Design in Life. The conference will go deeper and dig in the theme

“Open, participative city: how design knowledge can support public services in the development of open, participative city environment”.

We will make the Cumulus Helsinki 2012 an impressive, visible, open and wide forum, conducing and inspiring all Cumulus members and all interest groups into lively discussion and fresh and bold exchange of the ideas of how design tools could improve the development of city environment and the quality of life.

The Tracks will be grouped into academic papers and papers emphasizing the designer’s profession and practices, while Sub-themes in the tracks are conceivable.
Nothern World Mandate conference will be also hosting the New Members Fair and General Assembly of Cumulus.

Aalto University, established in 2010, is a new university with centuries of experience. The Aalto University was created from the merger of three Finnish universities: The Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and The University of Art and Design Helsinki. Aalto University School of Science and Technology has been divided into four new schools starting from 1st of January 2011. The six schools of Aalto University are all leading and renowned institutions in their respective fields and in their own right.

The combination of six schools opens up new possibilities for strong multi-disciplinary education and research. The new university’s ambitious goal is to be one of the leading institutions in the world in terms of research and education in its own specialized disciplines.
