Otto Von Busch

Dr. Otto von Busch is assistant professor and researcher in Integrated Design at Parsons the New School for Design. In 2008 he finished his PhD in artistic research, focusing on socially engaged fashion design, at the School of Design and Craft, University of Gothenburg.

In his research and practice he explores how design and craft can be reverse engineered, hacked and shared among many participants as a form of civic engagement, building community capabilities through collaborative craft and social activism. He is an affiliated researcher at Business and Design Lab, University of Gothenburg, exploring sloyd, post-industrial crafts and the molecular design management of hacklabs.

As a visiting research fellow at London College of Fashion he has organized projects inquiring how garment repair can be a tool for mending the social fabric of communities and how hoodies can act as probes for the critical explorations of local neighbourhoods.
